Forward with primary fruit of framboise, the 2021 Pinot Noir Le Pre Du Col Vineyard pours a jeweled ruby hue and is expressive on opening with notes of candied roses, cedar, and forest floor. Full-bodied, it fills the palate with silky fruit, sweet tannins, and a stony finish. It’s great now, as are many of these wines from this vintage, and will continue to improve over the coming 8-10 years. - Audrey Frick

Le Pré du Col is a vineyard site in the Ribbon Ridge AVA planted in 2006. It typically offers wines of great ageability. As the wine opens, aromas of frankincense, candied blue fruits and dried violets become more emphatic. The palate dances between soft red and blue fruits and a briny seaspray character. Flavours of black cherry, clove and sea air mix with heady, savoury dried herbs and a touch of cassia bark.

Vibrant fruit here mixed with earthy mushroom notes. Red and purple plums, porcini, star anise, tea leaves and savory spices. It’s tight in tannin texture yet aromatically open, with a medium body and silky, savory layers. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Medium ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Le Pré du Col Vineyard has pretty scents of raspberry, cranberry, bergamot and mushroom, revealing more aromatic detail as it spends time in the glass. The light-bodied palate is chalky and refreshing with concentrated fruit and loads of botanical and floral accents on the long, layered finish. I love this fragrant, detailed expression!

In their best expression, Ribbon Ridge pinots seems to teem with fruit, sumptuous, generous and comfortable. This is what Josh Bergström has pulled off here, from a vineyard the family has leased and farmed since 2006. Scents of crushed rose petals and cranberry give lift to otherwise succulent fruit, with a fine, saline minerality that tethers the richness and keeps the wine on a straight course. Brooding, with an appealing earthy, forest floor accent to the blueberry and dusky spice flavors as this builds tension and density toward medium-grained tannins. Hands off for now. Best from 2024 through 2034. 950 cases made.

This mixes savory and sweet with a cascade of violets and lavender over a stream of brisk acidity. It casts tangy red fruits across the palate, offset by a tinge of sour citrus. Only lightly tannic yet full of tension, Le Pré du Col finishes long and potent with an air of inner florals and hints of foreign spice.
