(95-97 points) The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grands Ruchottes 1er Cru is limited to just one and a half barrels. It has a pixelated bouquet with stunning delineation, one of the most profound aromatics from Benoît Moreau this year, the kind of bouquet difficult to drag your nose away from. The palate is perfectly balanced with astounding intensity, brimming with mineralité with a very subtle reduction on the finish. Enthralling. (93-96 points) Fresh, cool and admirably pure floral, green fruit and petrol scents are trimmed in just enough wood to merit pointing out. The restrained and intensely mineral-driven flavors possess excellent volume and plenty of energy before really fanning out on the firm, balanced and ever-so-slightly austere finale that coats the palate with sappy dry extract. This superb Grandes Ruchottes possesses terrific development potential though it's clearly going to require at least 5 to 6 years just to get rolling while amply rewarding extended cellaring. Patience strongly recommended.

(93-96 points) Three quarters 85 year old, and one patch planted in 2019. Pale with a lemon tint. Clearly classy but very backward. Sublime texture, very light on its feet but with a great tensile strength, caressed by the oak. A long and velvet touch to the finish. Drink from 2027-2035.

(93-95 points) There's only one barrel of the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes, derived from the old-vine holdings (plus a few rows of young vines) formerly exploited by Domaine Bernard Moreau, but its quality is some compensation for the tiny quantity. Offering up aromas of pear, citrus oil, nutmeg, white flowers and paraffin wax, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, saline finish. As has often been the case in its previous incarnation, it will embarrass many a grand cru in this challenging vintage. -WK
