There is a slightly different aromatic character here as there is a distinct wild character to the black raspberry, plum, humus and sauvage-suffused nose. There is excellent intensity to the textured, delicious and muscular larger-scaled flavors that are very firmly structured on the beautifully persistent if slightly warm finale. This is also atypical but quite impressive.

90+ The 2020 Gevrey villages bottling from Domaine Roty is broad-shouldered in the style of the vintage, but here we start to see a bit of the personality of the 1990 vintage making itself felt in the aromatic and flavor profile of the wine. The bouquet offers up scents of cassis, black cherries, coffee bean, grilled meats, dark soil tones, cedar and a note of bonfire in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with firm, chewy tannins, fine focus and grip and a long, promising finish. Good juice.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village exhibits aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries, loamy soil and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a penetrating finish. As usual, it's one of the more approachable wines in the range. - WK
