The 2020 Griotte-Chambertin from Domaine Lignier is another excellent bottle in the making. The nose jumps from the glass in a beautifully sappy combination of red and black cherries, grilled meats, dark chocolate, a fine base of chalky soil tones, espresso, bonfire and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and shows off lovely depth at the core, with fine mineral drive and grip, seamless, ripe tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish.

(92-94 points) Supple and seamless, the 2020 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru (négoce) bursts with aromas of orange rind, cassis, peonies, sweet spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish.- WK

Bright, forward plummy fruit which has appropriate floral and mineral notes within a texture which is firm and fresh. Purchased fruit from 50-year-old vines in Griotte - 2014 was the first vintage for Lignier. Although vinified with the same care and attention as the rest of the portfolio, it seems to lack a bit of the frisson of some wines in this cellar.
