This too possesses a highly attractive mouthfeel with slightly better mid-palate density to the relatively powerful flavors that are a mix of refinement and punch on the dusty, moderately austere and firmly structured finale. This is a classic Theurons of grace, but no lack of character, that will need extended patience to arrive at its apogee.

(91-93 points) The 2020 Beaune Les Theurons 1er Cru has a much more introverted bouquet compared to the Grèves, with an attractive marine element, hints of kelp and shucked oyster shell percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine line of acidity, lightly spiced with a detailed and quite peppery finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2024-2045)

(90-92 points) Revealing aromas of cherries, sweet berries, warm spices and raw cocoa, the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Les Theurons (Domaine Gagey) is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a rich core of fruit underpinned by powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish.

Boasts black cherry and black currant fruit accented by earth and a touch of chocolate. Offers beefy tannins that lurk in the background, while the dense structure clamps down on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2043. - B.S.
