(96+ points) I always love the wines from this tiny estate, which is located on the upper plateau of Saint-Emilion, and their 2020 Château Clos De Sarpe is another brilliant wine. Deep purple-hued, with a powerful bouquet of ripe cassis and black cherry fruits as well as camphor, graphite, and liquid violets, it's flawlessly balanced, has remarkable purity of fruit, building tannins, and well-integrated oak. This wine can age beautifully, and this 2020 will still be drinking brilliantly in 20, 30, if not 40 years. Bravo. Tasted multiple times, and I rated it as high as 98 on one occasion.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Clos de Sarpe comes bounding out with exuberant notes of juicy black plums, blackberry preserves, and fruitcake, plus wafts of potpourri, sandalwood, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate has its characteristic richness offset by a wonderfully lively backbone, delivering loads of spicy layers on the long, plush-textured finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Quite floral in nature, the wine picks up steam with the addition of oceanic nuances, licorice, smoke and red fruits. On the palate, there is length, purity and a vibrancy to the red fruits that linger. The salty energy in the finish from all of its stony minerality really stands out, adding a lot of complexity and character to the wealth of fruit on the palate and in the finish. A decade ago, a vintage like this would have produced a monster at this address, which is naturally blessed with old vines and low yields, but vinification at low temperature, without any saignée, has delivered a remarkably elegant, suave 2020 Clos de Sarpe. Offering up aromas of dark berries, cherries, plums and sweet spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Sadly, there are only 8,000 bottles of this lovely Saint-Émilion. - William Kelley

The 2020 Clos de Sarpe has a powerful nose yet is well-defined with seductive rose petal and iris flower scents; it's focused and retains ample freshness. The palate is silky smooth on the entry. Fleshy, cohesive and minty towards the finish, the 2020 delivers lovely blueberry and cassis fruit. Modern in style, yet sophisticated. This is very promising. -- Neal Martin
