(93-97 points) A fine bright even purple, bizarrely accessible in 2019. A slightly toasty reduction. Very sensual, absolutely delicious all the way through, the oak adding a little touch of charm. Not the most massive but certainly very long. We played around with tasting from various barrels: From new Rousseau “video” the wine came over as much more massive, less aromatic, and with a slightly burning feel at the back. From Rousseau “alto” the extra weight was there but more finesse, and a much longer finish. Apparently it is usually the other way round between these two types of barrel.

A flashy version, this boasts vanilla and toasty oak aromas and flavors, with macerated black cherry, plum, licorice and mint. Supple and refined, with a long, spice- and mineral-tinged aftertaste. So harmonious that it feels approachable now, but be patient. Best from 2025 through 2042. 108 cases made.- BS

This is aromatically similar to the Clos Prieur though with even more spice elements in play. There is definitely better volume and fine richness to the larger-scaled flavors that flash good power and delineation on the balanced, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finish where a touch of bitter pit fruit character slowly emerges.
