92+ The vineyard of Roncières is south of the center of town, but tucked in between les Porrets to its south and Pruliers to its north and, to the best of my recollection, it was not hit by any of the hail in July (or only very marginally affected). The 2018 Roncières has turned out beautifully, combining great pure and sappy fruit with a good undertow of minerality, all harnessed to the powerful and broad shoulders of the vintage. The bouquet jumps from the glass in an excellent combination of black cherries and plums, bitter chocolate, a superb base of soil, woodsmoke, grilled meats and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and almost bottomless in the mid-palate, with plenty of sappiness, fine mineral drive and a very long, ripely tannic and powerful finish. This is impeccably balanced and will be an outstanding wine in the fullness of time, but like all of the 2018s chez Chevillon, this will need some extended cellaring before it starts to stir.
