From various vineyards in the centre of the appellation, on both sides of the main road: Platière, Puits de la Baraque, Crais, Charreux, Champerriers. Full deep purple, with a luxurious ripe, but balanced fruit, an extra dimension here, but also firmer tannins than the Côte de Nuits-Villages. Back to the classic Roty structure with some crushed strawberries in the fruit mix.

Bursting with aromas of blackberries, plums, cassis, rich forest floor and black truffle, Roty's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with rich structuring tannins and a generous core of fruit. Lively and penetrating, if this vintage is overall a rather long-haul proposition chez Roty, this is one cuvée that's unusually approachable young. - WK
