jamessuckling.com, December 2022

Lots of blue and sweet berry fruit with heady rose and floral notes on the nose, alongside hot chocolate, sandalwood, toffee and nutmeg. It’s full-bodied with ripe, muscular tannins that are superbly integrated. Powerful...

Wine Spectator, June 2023

This leads off with graphite and oak spice aromas, while flavors of plum, black cherry, eucalyptus and tobacco lurk underneath. Dense, with firm yet polished tannins, this is guided by vibrant acidity and finishes with a...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2023

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa is born in a beautiful vineyard with long vistas and warm sunsets. This production of 14,000 bottles ages in oak for two years. You definitely taste the sweet spice and...

Decanter, November 2022

Winemaker Massimo Bracalente says that Caparzo’s holdings in Montosoli were spared botrytis in 2018. Situated on well-draining Galestro soil, its south- to southeast-facing plots are largely protected from late season...

Tenuta Caparzo is a Tuscan wine estate in the Montalcino region known for its signature Brunello di Montalcino ‘Vigna La Casa’. It was founded in the late 1960’s by a group of friends who bought an old ruin with vineyards in Montalcino. The farm estate was renovated, modernized and planted with new vineyards.

In 1998, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who owns the neighboring Altesino, purchased Caparzo and she immediately carried out her objective of combining tradition and innovation with the help of her son Igino and daughter Alessandra.

Caparzo, derived from “Ca’ Pazzo” as shown on some ancient maps, covers an overall surface area of 200 hectares. It includes 90 covered by vineyards, distributed over different hillsides in the borough of Montalcino. The vineyards are at a heights ranging from 720 to 985 feet above sea level. The soils ranges between sandy-clay, shale-clay (marl), shale-renaceous rich in skeleton, and sandy-stony. The exposure of the vineyards, the nature of the lands and the microclimates of the areas give fullness, age-ability and character to the Caparzo wines.

Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna la Casa was first produced in 1977. At the time little was known of terroir, and little attention was paid to the concept of zoning, which had only recently been introduced to Montalcino. In this case Caparzo was once again a pace setter, producing a “single vineyard” Brunello from one of the finest vineyards in the appellation.

With Brunello di Montalcino La Casa, Caparzo was also one of the first wineries to introduce barriques to Montalcino, producing a wine with a polite, elegant spirit. Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa is the fruit of a unique terroir, and expresses all of Caparzo's passion and experience in producing excellent wines.
