Bernard Magrez's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. It is made in a much more restrained style than the wines of the past. There is plenty of natural Napa Valley richness, but not the heaviness that marked some earlier vintages. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, leather, licorice, spice and chocolate unfold first, followed by brighter floral overtones and redder fruit that develop with aeration. Bright, salivating acids give the 2018 a real sense of poise. This is by far the most elegant and refined wine Bernard Magrez has made in Napa Valley. Superb. Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color and fragrant notes of rose hip tea, unsmoked cigars, powdered cinnamon and cloves with a core of warm cassis, redcurrant jelly and kirsch. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly played and soft spoken, it has nice fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the red and black fruit layers, finishing on an earthy note. 200 cases were made. - LPB

92+ The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes mostly from a site on Zinfandel Lane, and there were just 200 cases made. This ruby/plum-hued effort has a solid bouquet of redcurrants, cassis, tobacco, and lead pencil. It's quite focused and precise on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, building tannins, and just a balanced, elegant mouthfeel that makes it a joy to drink, although I suspect it will be even better with 3-4 years or so of bottle age. It's beautifully done.
