Olivier Bernstein uses 80% whole bunches as well as more customary 100% new oak on this fine Clos de Bèze from a 0.3ha parcel. Big, bold and dense, it's a serious, ageworthy wine with sumptuous red and black fruits, stylish wood, tangy acidity and impressive palate length.

(94-97 points) Rich noble colour, intense and satisfying, the nobility continues on to the nose. This has all the sublime grace that a young Clos de Bèze should have, dances on the palate, does not put itself forward too much, falling just on the red side of the cusp between red and black fruit. Quite complex detail to the fruit though, a perfect balancing acidity, and very fine persistence. Tasted: November 2018.

Rich and smoky, with ample flesh, sweet, ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit and well-integrated spicy oak notes, all underlined by a vein of mineral, lingering nicely. All the components are present in the right proportions, but this needs time. Best from 2024 through 2042. — BS
