The 2017 Val de Loire Grolleau is intense and finely reductive on the more bloody and concentrated nose that offers dark, black fruit with tobacco and leathery flavors. Silky-textured, round and sweet on the palate, this is a generous, more animal but pure and refreshing Grolleau with a ripe but crunchy tannin structure. Long and intense, with a silky-textured juiciness and good vitality. Generous. Warm. Excellent. Tasted at the domaine in June 2021. - Stephan Reinhardt

It is rare to find a red wine made from Grolleau, which is normally used for rosés. However, this rich, structured wine with funky aromas and dense tannins shows the grape's aptitude for red. From biodynamically grown grapes, the wine is worth aging more. Drink from 2022. ROGER VOSS
