The 2016 Combettes was untouched by frost and the wine is very fine in this vintage. The elegant and focused nose offers up scents of apple, pear, chalky minerality, vanillin oak, fresh almond, orange zest and a nice esthery touch of bee pollen in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely defined by its backend mineral drive, with a lovely core, an appropriately reserved and youthful personality and a long, vibrant finish. This is not a really intensely flavored wine this year (due to the leaf roll virus perhaps?), but will be supremely elegant at its apogee and I like it very much in 2016.
