Vinous, September 2022

94+ The 2016 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Cruà takes things to a more serious level, as musky black currants, plums, flowery underbrush, wild scrub and herbs smolder up from the glass. This splashes across the palate...

Basilisco was founded in the 1990s, with the aim of achieving the highest quality both in the vineyards and in the wine. It was acquired 2011 by Feudi di San Gregorio, a leading winery in the South of Italy.

Basilisco’s vineyards are in the area of Barile, between 450 and 600 meters above sea level. Among them is “The Historical”, a beautiful old vineyard where vines grow on traditional “capanno” together with olive and fruit trees. The 20 hectares are completely organic and are overseen by Pierpaolo Sirch. The volcanic soil, tuff stone, and flysch enriches the full, fruity wines with unmistakable characteristics of freshness and minerality.

Basilisco vinifies and stores its wines inside caves dug beneath the village in the 15th century.
