Rich, ripe, round, and loaded with juicy sweet black fruits, tobacco leaf, espresso and cedar, the wine is full bodied, deep, complex, polished and round. Château Beychevelle covers a full 73.5 hectare of vines in Saint-Julien, with Romain Duclomb (of Château Clinet) functioning as the technical director and Eric Boissenot as oenologue. A true gem in the vintage is the 2015 Château Beychevelle which is 47% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, all of which was brought up in 50% new oak. This beauty is loaded with notions of black cherries, leafy herbs, underbrush and hints of violets. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and opulent on the palate, with fine, ripe tannin, it has all the right components, is intense, pure, and lengthy. Count me in as a fan and it will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for two decades or more.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2015 Beychevelle is quite closed and broody to begin, offering glimpses at tar and chargrill scents over a core of plum preserves, baked blackcurrants, and espresso, plus a touch of black olives. The medium-bodied palate is taut and muscular, with slowly evolving black fruits and earthy layers supported by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with great persistence.

This elegant estate, with its views down to the Gironde estuary, has produced an excellent 2015. It is properly firm with tannins although this structure is well balanced with the ripe, stylish black-currant fruits and acidity. A juicy finish bodes well for the future. Drink this generous wine from 2025.

At this point Beychevelle had really begun to focus on working its tannins and its overall selection process to bring depth and longeivity. This is looking great at nine years old, just limbering up towards its drinking window but still young in fruit expression. Salted cracker, cracked pepper, blackbeerry and cassis fruit, crayon and slate. Harvest September 22 to October 8, 60% new oak for ageing.

The 2015 Beychevelle has evolved since I last tasted it, this bottle showing a pronounced camphor, slightly medicinal scent that threatens to obscure the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is very pliant and fresh, focused, albeit without the bravura of the 2016. Persistent though and with a fine spicy finish, I would cellar this for another couple of years. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property. -- Neal Martin

This really does expand outwards in the mouth, with an excellent quality of juicy black fruit on display. This has more potential than the 2014 vintage — contrary to many other wines in this part of the Médoc. 4% Petit Verdot makes up the blend. The 2015 Beychevelle is a blend of 47% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in barrel, 50% of which were new and 50% second fill. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it's scented of smoked meats, scorched earth, garrigue and new leather with a core of cassis, cherry cordial and plum preserves. The medium-bodied palate is a little firm but delicate, with lovely vibrancy and a bit of grip on the finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Lovely mulled plum and blackberry fruit glides along a cleanly embedded graphite edge, while violet and anise details skirt along the edges. The finish picks up a tasty ganache coating while keeping the energy up. Rock-solid. Best from 2022 through 2040. — J.M.
