Bursts with vibrant energy as soon as this hits the palate, yet is refined and elegant throughout -- akin to a prima ballerina's marriage of stored power and grace. The 14th vintage of Rare, the 2014 Champagne Millésime Rosé has 9 grams per liter dosage, and most of the Pinot Noir in it comes from Verzy, with the red wine coming from Les Ricey. Pouring a brilliant orange/pink hue, the wine is juicy and fresh with aromas of wild strawberry tart, graham, blood orange, and a hint of cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, its mousse is inviting and adds just a hint of spice character, with notes of grapefruit pith on the finish. A bit more reserved on opening, it will benefit with more time to open and show its best, but it has a very attractive structure. Drink 2025-2040.

Abundant aromas of flowers and cherry blossom, red berries and black cherry and a hint of spice. Despite the fruity and floral character, the palate is driving and fresh, textured and chalky. It balances stony, mineral notes with the richness of candied orange, spice, mocha and black cherry, with a subtle bitterness appearing as the mousse fizzes away. This is a generous rosé Champagne, its power is evident. When this 2014 vintage of Rare rosé was created, the very first vintage of Rare rosé, the 2007, had still not been released. 'We were still fine tuning what the style of Rare rosé would be,' says Émilien Boutillat, so there are slight differences, in terms of winemaking and outlook, between the first four vintages of this cuvée. 2014 was a challenging vintage, the weather switched continually between cold, rainy periods and sunshine. Overall it was a cool vintage, and harvest was dry and sunny. As with the flagship white Rare, the majority of the blend comes of the Montagne de Reims. This iteration has 18% added as red wine.

The 2014 Brut Rosé Millésime blends 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and Les Riceys, with the latter providing 18% of red wine for its supple pink color. The nose evokes strawberry compote with mandarin peel, aromatic, juicy, red-fruited and bright, with hints of rosehip and hibiscus tisane. The body is wonderfully pliable, submerging you in a sea of red-fruited, mellow freshness with beautiful Pinot-dimension and lush fruit from Les Riceys, even bringing in overtones of tiny, ripe wild strawberries. This pink Champagne offers vivid fruit, bold finesse and immense depth, just about to come out of its shell and clearly destined for the table. Dosage is 9 grams per liter. The fourth vintage of Rare Rosé, showing notes of cherry blossom, rose hips, black currants, cherry stones and some balsamic alongside star anise. Lovely perfumed character on the palate, with roses coming to the forefront. Soft bubbles. Bright and open red fruit. 60% chardonnay, 40% pinot noir, mostly from Montagne de Reims, with 12% red wine from Les Riceys. 9g/L dosage. Delicious now.

(93+ points) Tasted from magnum, disgorged in July 2023 with a dosage of nine grams per liter, the 2014 Rare Rosé Millésime displays a deeper hue than its two predecessors. Flamboyant and demonstrative, it bursts from the glass with aromas of blood orange, apricot, cherry and wild strawberry, mingling with candied pear and a touch of buttered toast. Incorporating 18% red wine from Les Riceys, it is full-bodied and muscular, with a rich and sweet core of fruit, succulent yet vibrant acidity and pillowy mousse, finishing long and perfumed with a subtle phenolic grip. While not as incisive or deep as the 2008, nor as harmonious as the 2012, this rather powerful rendition possesses the attributes to evolve nicely over time, aging on its generous structure. - Kristaps Karklins
