The 2014 les Cras was the most shut down wine in the range at Domaine Barthod this year, but Ghislaine observed “that the more mineral wines are always the first to close when the cellar starts to cool.” This is going to be a terrific wine with sufficient bottle age, as it offers up a pure and refined bouquet of cherries, red berries, fresh herb tones, a superb base of chalky minerality, nutskin and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure on the attack and reserved in profile, with a great core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and impeccable focus and balance on the very long, transparent and vibrant finish. A terrific wine in the making.
