The 2013 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard has a medium to deep ruby color and takes several minutes in the glass to unfold from cast iron to deeper scents of wild berries and charcuterie. 2013 was the first in a series of drought vintages (2013-2015), but it has an alluringly restrained, savory style—it would be easy to peg it as European. The medium-bodied palate has a harmonious structure of abundant, pixelated tannins and vibrant acidity and a long, graphite-laced finish. It is surprisingly youthful and will continue to develop savory complexity in bottle over the next 10-15 years. - Erin Brooks
