97+ Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Eligo has a profoundly scented nose of crème de cassis, blackberry pie, licorice, dark chocolate and blueberry preserves against an earthy/meaty background of bacon fat, forest floor, beef dripping and black loam. The densely packed, full-bodied palate manages almost paradoxical elegance and restraint with velvety tannins and lively acid giving closure to the long, multilayered finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The soil moisture of the 2011 growing season produced elegant and complete wines. The nose has distinctive Eden Valley spice and really attractive complexity, with a wealth of spiced red plums, blueberries and blackberries. The palate is long and elegant with a core of blue-fruit flavors. Impressive detail here. A standout vintage for Eligo. A blend of 51% Barossa Valley and 49% Eden valley. Drink or hold.

Pepper and sweet spice, blackberry, wood, mint and iodine are but a few of the intriguing aromas the emerge with a swirl in the glass. Weighty, but not heavy on the palate, a deft hand in the cellar brings incredible finesse to a varietal that can often be overblown and overbearing. Decidedly fruit full with a savory bent and persistent finish - in a blind tasting, this well made and elegant Barossa Shiraz might be pegged as a northern Rhone if one didn’t know better.

A dark, rooty, earthbound shiraz, this slowly reveals its flavors of blackberries, black currants and herbs. While gamey and meaty in its formidable tannins, the wine finishes firm and clean. It’s made by John Duval, who became chief winemaker at Penfolds in 1986, and later trained his successor, Peter Gago, before he set off to make his own wines in 2003.
