The 2009 Grand Mayne has an opulent bouquet with well defined kirsch and red plum aromas, hints of cough candy emerge with time. It remains focused and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, layers of candied red fruit laced with orange peel and marmalade. It builds beautifully towards the finish. Excellent. Another St.-Emilion smart buy for consumers Grand-Mayne has made a number of top wines (except for a short period when they had some TCA issues). This is a full-throttle effort filled with blueberry and black raspberry fruit perhaps slightly more oak than oakaphobes would prefer but a full-bodied concentrated ageworthy style. Sweet tannin low acidity and ripe fruit suggest this well-made St.-Emilion should drink nicely for 15-20 years.

With a darkly colored core and a fairly broad rose-colored robe the moderately aromatic nose initially shows off light and airy earth notes with richer black cherry fruits appearing with air. The fruit explodes on the palate where blackberry flavors are ripe and broadly textured becoming more viscous on the backpalate. Tannins and lingering chalky notes combine to form a firm finish. The plush fruit textures and slightly rough finish leave a disjointed impression to the wine. Let the tannins resolve and drink by 2030.

Very dark with almost heady blueberry and plum confiture flavors at the core wrapped with extra cassis and boysenberry notes. Long and liberally laced with toast and mocha with a licorice snap edge on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2024. 4000 cases made.
