Decanter, January 2018

You start to feel the dial turning up the power as this travels through the palate. Even at 10 years old, the tannins go in deep around the fruit, with luscious menthol notes on the finish. This is one of the juiciest of...

janeanson.com, September 2021

Earthy tannins that are a little austere, this is classic Pauillac but is softened and beginning to show hints of tertiary, soy, olive and sweet strawberry notes. If you are going to drink now, give it a good 2 or 3 hours...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2018

The wine is showing some signs of aging, which matches its secondary development as you find forest floor, cigar wrapper, cedar wood and softening of the fruit and tannins. The wine is full bodied, juicy, crisp and fresh...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, July 2012

Tasted from a bottle opened at the chateau, since the one in Southwold was not showing so well, the 2008 has a lovely, lifted bouquet of blackberry, blood orange, crushed stone, cedar and tar. It is much more vigorous...

View From The Cellar, July 2011

The 2008 Grand-Puy-Lacoste was not showing quite as well as its stable-mate, Haut-Batailly, during my visit to the property in April, but one has to assume that this was simply a moment of adolescent awkwardness for the...

The nose is driven by minerals clearly some graphite and lead mixing with notes of red berries cherry and tobacco. Smooth and sweet entry with nice balance and just the right amount of tannin on the lingering finish.

The wines of Grand-Puy-Lacoste have a beautiful, deep color and the aromas are very pure and complex, subtle and refined. Depending on the vintage, one's first impression may be of ripe fruit or flowers, often toasted notes, spice and vanilla. With time it develops a remarkably full, rich character.

In the mouth one is struck by its elegant individuality. The flavors support and amplify its aromatic sensations with a notably large range of fruit, particularly cassis, which develops with age. The wines are well-built, with powerful tannic structure which never loses its silky smoothness.

By nature a wine for long aging, Grand-Puy-Lacoste needs between eight and ten years to reveal its full potential.
