The 2007 Chambertin from Jean-Louis Trapet is outstanding, and is destined to be a cellar treasure with eight to ten years of bottle age, though I have little doubt that many enthusiasts may find it hard to resist long before that. The bouquet is deep, complex and superb, as it offers up notes of pure black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, gentle meatiness, blood orange, coffee and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, pure and complex, with moderate, ripe tannins, lovely acidity and great length and grip on the palate-staining and very elegant finish. A terrific Chambertin.

An ocean breeze-like amalgam of salinity, alkalinity, and animal nuances – along with fresh plum, cherry, peony, narcissus, and rose aromas – mark the alluring nose of Trapet’s 2007 Chambertin. Firmly tannic yet fine-grained, it projects a striking sense of vivacity and levity for its vintage and appellation, with persistently wafting musky florality, deep, saline minerality, and animal mystery carrying into a finish of impressive intrigue and length. Look for this to reward your ministration for a dozen or more years.

A floral, cool, reserved and very restrained but highly complex nose offers up impressively fine gradations of fresh pinot fruit and warm earth aromas that merge into rich, full and powerful flavors that are powerful and tautly muscled before culminating in an explosive though youthfully austere finish that is also impressively persistent. The sense of vibrancy is almost palpable and like the Latricières, everything is focused, harmonious and built to age though this should arrive at its apogee within a decade.
