WE 93

Wine Enthusiast, March 2009

Benefiting from the great quality of Cabernet Franc in 2006, this is a beautiful wine, perfumed and seductive. The fruit tannins are so well integrated with wood that they are only just dominant. Ripe, opulent but also...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2016

Tasted at the château, the 2006 Le Dôme has retained an attractive bouquet with crushed violet and cold limestone scents percolating through the blackberry and boysenberry fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with...

, October 2014

The flagship wine from Jonathan Maltus has aged gracefully over the last 8 years. The 2006 Le Dome reveals aromas of sweet red and black fruit, roasted spices, dried flowers and coffee. The palate is medium to full...

Wine Spectator, January 2009

A very attractive wine with berry chocolate and light toasty oak on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied with velvety tannins and a medium caressing finish. Very pretty if young. Best after 2013. -JS

The Le Dome Grand Cru is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot. Vines for this release are cropped low – around 30 hectoliters per hectare – four bunches to the vine (less than half the volume authorized by the Appellation), thus ensuring its incredible concentration.

The fruit is hand-harvested then sorted, first by bunch then grape-by-grape. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats after extremely cold maceration. Malolactic fermentation and aging takes place in new French oak barrels.

Le Dome has the highest Cabernet Franc percentage of any wine in Bordeaux and is said to be the biggest expression of that grape in the region. The wine is full-bodied but has elegance and finesse. The optimal drinking window is very broad, from just a few years to more than 25 years after the vintage.
