These were the years when Saint-Pierre began to live up to its potential. Ripe ruby in colour, with enticing aromatics of dark cinammon and turmeric spices, and heaps of liqourice, marmite, slate, crayon. This is still young, at the begining of its drinking window, extremely special with incredible depth and texture. Bursting out of the glass, will reward a little more patience, but the energy and sense of excitement is already evident. If you want to know what umami feels like, get hold of this wine. Harvest September 22 to October 5, 60% new oak.

Possibly one of two of the most concentrated St.-Juliens (Léoville Las Cases is the other), this 2005 shows wonderfully sweet tannin, a dense ruby/purple color, and lots of crème de cassis, licorice and spice. Full-bodied, opulent, and impressive, it is surprisingly soft, though it will certainly age nicely for 15-20+ years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

The 2005 Château Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) shows the more structured, dense, powerful style of the vintage while still staying balanced and light on its feet. Ripe black fruits, saddle leather, and savory herbs and spice all define the aromatics and it’s a big, rich, slightly foursquare effort that has tons of character. It will evolve for another 10-15 years. I continue to love what this estate does.

At 40 acres, Saint-Pierre is small for the Médoc, but it is certainly performing well. As fine as the 2005, the 2008 is a stylish wine that also packs a firm punch of dense fruit, firm tannins and mouthwateringly juicy acidity. For medium-term aging.

A very beautiful red with blackberry licorice and currant on the nose. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and lots of smoke berry coffee and dark chocolate flavors on the finish. The best wine from this producer in ages. Best after 2014. 5000 cases made. -JS
