The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a beguiling bouquet with pure brambly red fruit, fine mineralité, hints of sous-bois and pressed flower. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, not a powerful or decadent Les Amoureuses but complex and mineral-driven. There is a slight earthiness towards the finish that feels very persistent. This is completely divine and should give many years of drinking from pleasure. Tasted blind at the domaine. The colour is turning now and the bouquet shows very much secondary aromatics. Fine and elegant up front, more savoury and even saline behind. Tried blind, not guessed and probably would not find 2002 next time either. Actually, I suspect that this wine needed more time after opening to start showing its paces; having said which, it was not the only 2002 tasted during the same week which was not quite singing to the degree we expected.
