2006 Finca Villacreces - Ribera del Duero
"The first vines at Finca Villacreces were planted in the 13th century, and the holdings have expanded ever since. Located next to the celebrated Vega Sicilia, the high-altitude vineyards at Villacreces are said to be among the finest in the Ribera del Duero. The Anton family, owners of a Rioja bodega and a Basque Michelin-starred restaurant, purchased the property in 2003. The vineyard team farms sustainably, and the poor soils keep the yields low. Their Ribera is made from 86% Tinto Fino (a special clone of Tempranillo), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot. Aged for 16 months in French oak, it is a memorable combination of fruity, earthy, floral and spicy notes. It is so good that The Wine Advocate awarded it 94 points." -SFWTC Staff
