2008 Cappellano - Barolo Pie Rupestris
"The 2008 Barolo Rupestris shows slightly more heft and concentration to the appearance with dark garnet tones and fresher fruit aromas. Dark cherry, pressed blackberry and plum are backed by a generous array of balsam aromas that include eucalyptus, dried mint, hummus, tar and cola. This wine was released in February of this year and only 9,000 bottles were made. It’s absolutely exceptional" -SFWTC Staff
"The wines of Cappellano (Cappellano Dr. Giuseppe) are like that rare animal you may, or may not see no matter how thoroughly you search the jungle, the prairies or whatever its natural habitat may be. You don’t see bottles of this cult Barolo in the wine shops of Alba and most of the exported production immediately falls into the hands of collectors and die-hard enthusiasts. Thanks to a strict traditionalists’ philosophy, Cappellano’s unique expressions of Barolo are among the most celebrated in the Langhe. The artisanal approach adopted by the late Teobaldo Cappellano embraces elements of the natural wine philosophy within a greater sustainable farming ideology." - Wine Advocate
