2007 Antoniolo - Gattinara
This is made exclusively from Nebbiolo from the Castelle cru. The soils are mostly mornaic and volcanic. Most of the vines enjoy southwest exposure. The must is fermented in a temperature-controlled tank, with a 10-12 day period of maceration. The wine is pumped over daily for more thorough fermentation as well as better color extraction. The wine is aged for 24 months in barriques, then cellared in bottle for one year before release.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
"The estate's 2007 Gattinara Le Castelle flows with black cherries, mint, flowers, spices and vanillin. The mid-weight, translucent style is nicely fleshed out in this undeniably attractive, dazzling wine. The Castelle becomes more and more radiant as it sits in the glass and continues to flesh out, while the oak is very nicely integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2027."
