2012 Domaine de la Cadette - Bourgogne Chardonnay "La Soeur Cadette"
"Jean Montanet–the winemaker at Domaine La Cadette–is a master at producing high quality wines at down-to-earth prices. Located in Vezelay, some twenty miles outside of Chablis, Montanet crafts dry aromatic whites and soft perfumed reds. This is poor man's Chablis at its finest. The soils are rich in marine deposits and are near identical to those found in Chablis. What's more, the grapes are farmed organically. The resulting wine is simply sublime with succulent notes of Bosc pear and snappy green apple, followed by hints of white tea, tuberose and Kimmeridgian minerality. And the best part is that Cadette's wines cost a fraction of the price of neighboring Chablis." --SFWTC Staff
"The vineyards of Domaine de la Cadette sit deep in the Morvan, the great mountain range of the Cote d’Or that is responsible for uplifting the marl and limestone strata and revealing fossilized marine deposits, which give the wines a remarkable resemblance to a fine premier cru Chablis. Bursting with green apple and pear fruit, white flowers, liquid minerals and a touch of pink grapefruit, the 2012 Soeur Cadette is a spectacular effort that could easily double for a vineyard designate Chablis that would cost three times the price." -Michelle Pepitone, SFWTC
