2011 Rafael Palacios - Godello "Sabrego" Valdeorras
"In Galicia, the northwestern corner of Spain, the Godello grape is making a comeback. For years this native varietal was being replanted to more profitable grape varietals like Palomino, and today it is reaching such heights that some believe these are Spain's equivalent to France's white burgundies. In 2004, winemaking legend Rafael Palacios started sourcing Godello from some of the region's oldest, high-altitude vineyards on sandy granite soils to make this complex and terroir-driven cuvee. Aged between four to five months on its lees, the Sabrego Godello is fleshy with notes of pear yet exhibits incredible restraint, with notes of citrus blossom, tarragon, almond, and an undeniable minerality. Exquisite." -SFWTC Staff
