2011 Primus - Malbec Mendoza
Sale Price: $13.95
"Rodrigo Soto uses old-vine, high-altitude fruit to create this gorgeous Argentinian Malbec. Soto earned his savoir-faire working for wineries in New Zealand, Argentina, Chile and the United States, including the famous Benziger Winery, where he served as head winemaker for six years. This rich and juicy Malbec is aged in oak barrels for 14 months before release. Showcasing notes of berries and plums, with subtle aromas of violets and savory spices, it is a great accompaniment to holiday roasts of all kinds." -SFWTC Staff

"The 2012 Primus Malbec is produced with grapes from Mendoza, so this wine should have been included in the Argentina report, but I tasted it too late. It is produced with fruit from the Uco Valley, produced in Vistalba in the Carlos Pulenta winery. The wine has a showy nose of violets and blueberries intermixed with black pepper aromas and a lush, silky texture, ripe tannins and a licorice-driven finish. This is almost an experiment, which in a winery this size means 3,000 to 4,000 cases of 12 bottles. This is a very good Malbec at an attractive price. Drink 2015-2021."
