2011 Guimaro - Mencia Ribeira Sacra
"Pedro Guimaro and his family farm the steep slopes of Amandi in Spain's Ribeira Sacra appellation, meaning "sacred banks." When we say steep, we're not joking. The only way to access many of their terraced vineyards is by an iron ladder that hugs the cliffs. Pedro is a believer in traditional methods, farming sustainably and only using native yeasts during fermentation. The Guimaro tinto is an absolute treasure. Sourced from 40-year-old vines planted on slate soils, this unoaked Mencia is a wonderfully lush, spicy and mineral-driven--a lovely pairing with pork dishes and spicy foods!" -SFWTC Staff
