2009 Kabaj - Merlot Goriska Brda Slovenia
"Like Italy's Collio on the other side of the border, Merlot has become a favorite grape varietal in the Goriska Brda. While Merlot may have trouble ripening in cooler climates, on the sunny slopes of the Kabaj estate, their vines achieve a lovely maturation. Jean-Michel Morel and Katja Kabaj de-stem the entire crop at harvest and ferment the grapes in cement tanks, where they macerate on the skins for 21 days. Racked into barrel for malolactic fermentation and an additional 24 months of aging, Kabaj’s Merlot is exquisite and long-lived." -SFWTC Staff
