2008 Gianfranco Bovio - Barolo "Rocchettevino"
"The Baroli of Gianfranco Bovio are without equal, and the Piedmont's 2008 vintage is as classic as they get. Gianfranco (aka "the Godfather of La Morra") owns 22 hectares, half of which are dedicated to the noble Nebbiolo grape, the other half planted to Barbera and Dolcetto. He grows and bottles three single vineyard Baroli, and Rocchettevino grows on a hillside with south-by-southwest sun exposure. Rocchettevino is also his most approachable cuvee, as it sees no oak aging. Quintessential aromas of tobacco, roses and Morello cherries make this an elegant choice for game birds." -SFWTC Staff
Gianfranco Bovio Description
Walter Parasso, along with his wife Carla and son Fabio–and of course the Godfather of La Morra himself, Gianfranco Bovio–have produced magnificent Barolo for three generations and counting. Planted in 1969, the vineyard of Rocchettevino is situated in La Morra, arguably Barolo’s most famous winegrowing region. Brimming with Morello cherry and black raspberry fruit, the 2008 offers up rustic notes of black pepper, licorice, chewy minerals and tar.
