Loire Valley White Wine between $75 and $100
The wines of the Loire Valley were made famous by the kings and queens of France, whose châteaux dot the horizon for hundreds of miles. Stretching from the Nantais on the Atlantic Coast into Anjou-Saumur, the Touraine, and Central France, the Loire River brings the Atlantic breezes inland, creating pockets of different microclimates for whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, and reds like Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Gamay to name a few. The variation in soils from sandy loam and alluvial deposits to the spongy tuffeau of Chinon and the prized Kimmeridgian limestone of Sancerre offer terrific variation between wines.
