The 2020 Müller-Thurgau Feldmarschall von Fenner bursts from the glass with a captivating mix of nectarine and lemon zest complicated by crushed rocks and curry leaves. This is texturally deep, flowing across the palate like pure silk. A saline mineral perfectly contrasts core citrus-tinged orchard fruits and ripe melon. The word salty doesn’t do this justice, as the 2020 finishes distinctively savory and intensely spicey, reverberating with residual acids that keep the mouth watering for more. While still relatively young, this is utterly fantastic. I can’t wait to see what a few years of cellaring might reveal. -- Eric Guido

Made from one of the highest vineyards in Alto Adige, this delicious white has aromas of spring blossom, yellow stone fruit and hazelnut. Fermented in concrete tanks and large casks, the elegantly structured palate features ripe apricot, juicy peach, fennel seed and lemon drop. Closed in a screw-cap bottle, the 2020 Alto Adige Müller Thurgau Feldmarschall Von Fenner starts off with some reduction that is quite apparent at this young age, but it should nonetheless carry the wine forward to evolve slowly and with care. These are characteristics I notice each year that I taste new vintages of this wine. Buried below are floral notes, yellow rose, mature peach and honeydew melon. This wine finishes with citrusy crispness. Winemaking sees both cement and oak botte. - Monica Larner
