Still in barrel, this is tight and deeply coloured. It gives a real swirl of toffee and smoked almond on the nose and demonstrates depth on the palate, the coffee and cinnamon toast flavours run through with damson. It's a great quality second wine, but austere right now.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Baron de Brane is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with slightly broody tar and scorched earth notes leading to a creme de cassis and stewed plums core, plus a waft of truffles and black olives. Medium to full-bodied, firm, and velvety, the palate has wonderful freshness, finishing long and earthy. It should age well. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
