Dried cherries, tar, nutmeg, forest floor, red licorice and chili pepper all spring out of the glass. Very chewy and structured on the palate with loads of ripe but harmonious tannins and a plethora of dried and fresher fruit, punctuated by a fine layering of acidity. Long and intense on the finish. The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Paronza is a wine of large and sweeping scope to be considered with a grilled, marinated steak. It offers an array of ripe aromas with cherry and raspberry confit, backed by some savory notes of rosemary essence, baking spice and iron ore. It sports a natural heaviness or richness that comes from both the fruit and the oak-aging.- ML
