2010 Lalande-Borie has a feisty and animated bouquet, more red fruit than black, with attractive pencil lead scents coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, tobacco and graphite, quite penetrating and sharp on the finish. Bottle age will just smooth out the edges, but I appreciate the energy in situ. Solid, with a very juicy core of lightly mulled plum and blackberry fruit, a polished apple wood note that runs along the edges and a solid, gravel-tinged finish. Sports nice terroir and leaves a mouthwatering feel on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2027. 12,665 cases made. — JM

The 2010 Lalande-Borie is another quite successful example of the vintage that steers clear of overripeness. The wine offers up a deep, ripe and classy nose of cassis, black cherries, espresso, cigar smoke, gravelly soil tones and a discreet base of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and quite nicely balanced, with fine mid-palate depth, well-measured tannins and really lovely length and grip on the finish. There are not really that many 2010s that are this poised and balanced. A fine result. (Drink between 2018-2040)
