Gruner Veltliner is Austria’s most popular white grape varietal, prized for its stylish versatility and its affinity for a wide array of cuisines. In the hands of the highly talented Hiedler, the 2011 “Loss” is an ultra-refined, steely wine that’s almost Chablis-like in its delivery. Extended lees contact adds a slightly nutty twist to this incredibly detailed mineral-driven effort. Crisp McIntosh apple and lemongrass are also present on the nose and are followed by hints of caraway, lemon and wet stone.
