2009 Pietro Beconcini, red Tuscan Maurleo, Italy. (Sangiovese - Malvasia Nera)
The vineyards of Pietro Beconcini have been in the family for three generations. Pietro’s grandfather first worked the vineyards as a sharecropper but in the early 1950s he purchased the land from the Marchesi Ridolfi family, becoming the first member of his family to produce wine. Maurleo is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera that’s aged in French oak for 12 months before going to bottle. Dark and chewy with deeply concentrated notes of blackberry, thyme, anise, cedar and cocoa spice.
