2011 Oyster Bay, Merlot, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. As wine writer Vic Harradine so eloquently put it: "This Merlot may be the pearl in the oyster." It is part Right Bank Bordeaux and part Alexander Valley Merlot with its lovely black spice-laden plum fruit notes, wisps of wood smoke and espresso and plump and juicy dark berry fruit. It’s medium bodied with creamy texture and a balanced fruit-forward aftertaste.
