The credit for the modern day success of Mourvedre in Provence goes to the Peyraud family, owners of Domaine Tempier. In the early part of the 20th century, they tirelessly fought to establish Bandol as bona fide appellation or AOC. La Tourtine is a 40+ year old vineyard composed of 80% Mourvedre and equal parts Grenache and Cinsault. In its youth it is tightly wound but over the course of ten years it will reveal a complex array of flavors from grilled meat to dusty cherry, ripe currant, graphite and herbs de Provence.
