According to Eric Asimov of the New York Times: “Tempier is the leading name in Bandol and makes the benchmark wine–taming the beast at the heart of Mourvèdre and producing about as elegant a wine as you will find in the region, the Cuvée Classique.” Their entry-level Bandol is a blend of 75% Mourvedre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsault and 2% Carignan. The 2010 is a real bruiser that will need a good 5-10 years to develop. For now, it is dark, rustic and tannic with concentrated notes of wild game, black pepper, tar, dried currant and a whisper of violets.
