A massive wine with black fruit and an imposing structure, plenty of depth, and impressive persistence on the palate. Although this is muscular, it is perfectly balanced. The Mazoyères from Dugat-Py is unlike any other. Loïc Dugat-Py explains that the soil in his quarter-hectare parcel of Mazoyères has larger pebbles than the parcel of Charmes just 100m distant.

Super-fresh, cool and distinctly restrained aromas include those of poached plum, the sauvage, rose petal and plenty of newly turned earth. The delicious, vibrant and more powerful larger-scaled flavors exude notably more minerality on the youthfully austere and superbly persistent finale. This beauty could also use a bit more depth, but everything is in place such that should occur. In a word, superb.

(95+ points) More intellectual than the demonstrative Charmes, the 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with notions of incense, plums, dark berries, vine smoke and spices. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, its deep, multidimensional core is framed by lively acids and powdery tannins. Historically, this cuvée was always one of the more structured, extracted wines in the range, yet the last few vintages have witnessed a turn toward greater elegance without losing any of the cuvée's inherent seriousness.- WK
