he 2006 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is an absolutely stunning wine and probably one of the two or three greatest wines from this outstanding vintage. When the wine is first poured, it is beautifully floral in personality on the nose, with scents of apple blossoms and white lilies, but over time, the floral aspects begin to play a supporting role to the gorgeous fruit tones of Meyer lemon, pear, hazelnut, sourdough bread, chalky minerality, caraway seed and orange zest. As the bottle starts to work towards the bottom gentle notes of buttery oak also start to feature on the nose. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and seamlessly balanced, with a rock solid core of fruit, marvelous soil undertow, bright acids, elegant mousse and a very, very long, complex finish. This is simply stunning.
